VoIP Provider Rankings For Q4 2006

Comcast is Nipping at Vonage’s Heels

ISP Planet has a nice little piece of market research showing how the top VoIP Service providers stack up. Here are the top five:

  1. Vonage 2.2 – Million Subscribers
  2. Comcast Digital Phone – 1.9 Million Subscribers
  3. Time Warner Digital Phone – 1.86 Million Subscribers
  4. Skype – 1.8 Million subscribers
  5. CableVision – 1.2 Million Subscribers

I expect, with all of Vonage’s patent woes, that for the first quarter of 2007, Comcast, and quite possibly Time Warner, will surpass Vonage.

Note that, whereas, the other numbers are based on data reported on or after Dec. 31, 2006, the numbers for Skype (acutally SkypeOut) are based on a press release issued in July, 2005. Since then the overall number of Skype users worldwide has at least trebled (based on eBay quarterly reports) as have the quarterly minutes of SkypeOut but no breakout of SkypeOut users has been provided.
