The Little Box That Can Do Almost Everything
Aswath Rao has an enlightening post about the ZTE’s Home Gateway H110. Fortunately for me, I actually have one. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to actually play with it :(. What makes this device so special is the multitude of ways it can be utilized by consumers and providers alike.
The HL110 comes standard with an Ethernet and PCMCIA Card Slot for Broadband access, multiple LAN interfaces including four (4) Ethernet, two (2) FXS, one (1) FXO and (2) USB ports. In addition the H110 supports Bluetooth, Print and File Sharing, multiple VPN/VLAN support, and offers a superior user experience with innovative QoS, and a feature rich GUI. As Aswath points out, this in not your run-of-the-mill all-in-one device . This bad boy acts like a PBX, “The two VoIP lines and the PSTN line will be used like “trunksâ€; the two FXS port and an optional Bluetooth phone will be used like “stationsâ€. The stations can talk to each other as intercom. The route for outgoing calls can be selected based on static configuration or dynamic dial plan.” Very cool.
While these devices have not emerged as “fan favorites” yet, I believe they have a bright future, especially as they creep closer and closer to having robust phone system capabilities. Just imagine the new CallButler software loaded on this type of software.
