Does Vonage Really Love You, The Customer?
A few weeks ago I wrote about a post entitled, “We All Owe Vonage a Thanks“. In it, I praised the battered pure-play for all that they have done to bring the VoIP industry to the mainstream. I even vowed to stop criticizing them. I did receive some flak, but overall many that I talked to agreed with my take on the situation.
Well, today i received an email about Vonage’s latest marketing stunt; VonageLovesYou.com. All i can say is that Vonage should be embarrassed by this site. What was undoubtedly started as a cute way to apologize for their horrid customer service as the write, “We know you’re here because you were put on hold when you tried to call us to find out about getting better phone service for less. We’re sorry. We hate it when that happens. Let us make it up to you by offering you your first 3 months at a special price of $9.95 per month† if you sign up for Vonage on VonageLovesYou.com today! “
Tell customers how much you suck, then offer a discount that kills market pricing? We get it - corporate transparency is “in”. Unbelievable. Whatever happened to the days that companies answered their phones and offered great products, service and support? I know things have been rough for Vonage, but this beyond desperate. Then again, sometimes people do stupid things…
