Not Ready For Mass Market Use
Although the client is not ready for mass market use as it requires a terminal on the iPhone to tell the iPhone to use its on-board SIP stack to place the call over WiFi instead of via the SIM card, Oliver Starr witnessed the first ever VoIP call on the iPhone. Truphone does plan to finish the development on this client to make it more user friendly…more inline with what an iPhone user would demand, in about a month.
Although I have been critical of the mobile VoIP provider model in the past, there is no denying that this is a slick application for the iPhone that should be wildly popular – exposing truphone to a whole new customer base.
