Thomson and Skype are teaming up to release a family of new products for use with Skype service. The first product to be released, under the GE brand name, is the GE 28300EE2. The GE 28300EE2 is powered by DECT 6.0 technology built into Thomson’s new wireless handset offerings, delivering interference free calling with exceptional voice quality. DECT 6.0 permits delivery of calls without the static, pops, hiss and buzz which severely hinder the performance of most wireless home and small office telephones. Widely used throughout Europe and Asia, DECT 6.0 solves many of the most common consumer complaints in the use of cordless telephones.

The GE 28300EE2 was created with convienence in mind. The GE 28300EE2 features a built-in speakerphone, color lcd screen, Skype & land-line conferencing capability of up to four users simultaneously from the handset, integrated Skype caller ID, and Easy one-touch link for powerful wireless home networking capabilities.

The GE 28300EE2 will carry an MSRP of $149.99 and will be available through Skype’s online store.

[...] Thomson, whose Thomson ST2030 IP Phone has been a hit in the European market, has announced plans to launch a VoIP Phone under the GE brand name for use with SunRocket VoIP Service. Although the announcement was vague and did not include any information on the IP Phone, I have seen the US version of the ST2030, and is not a residential solution. My best bet is that Thomson and SunRocket will release a phone similar to the GE 28300EE2 cordless IP Phone for use with Skype. The phone use DECT 6.0 and allows user to make calls over the PSTN or Skype. This would be an excellent move for both Thomson and SunRocket, as the phone offers the consumers the best wireless standard, a lifeline, and low cost long distance.
