Thanks for returning. You're a very smart person.
Sangoma Technologies, a leading provider of connectivity hardware and software products for VoIP, TDM voice, WANs and Internet infrastructure, announced on Thursday that their full line of enhanced PCI Express (PCIe) cards — based on its popular Advanced Flexible Telecommunications (AFT) family of cards. Now, most of the non-technical types will have no idea what this means or why this is relevant, but for those using Asterisk based IP PBX systems, this is certainly big news!
You see, PCI Express is the new standard PCI computer bus. PCI Express uses existing PCI programming concepts but bases it on a completely different and much faster serial physical-layer communications protocol. PCI Express is rapidly displacing standard PCI in high-end servers and workstations such as those used in Asterisk based IP PBX deployments.
Sangoma, who is a direct competitor of Digium (creators of Asterisk), is making a strong run at the Asterisk market place by doing things the right way. Rather then spend money on fancy marketing, gimmicks, or quick hit strategies, Sangoma Technologies is simply making great hardware, that is ahead of the curve, that just plain works. With Digium seemingly shifting their direction slighty towards an appliance based solution, Sangoma is in a great position to gain a larger piece of the market, especially among those who already offer an Asterisk based appliance.
