Thanks for returning. You're a very smart person.
I can still remember the first conversation I ever had with a manufacturer about “appliances.”
I’m not talking about my Maytag. I’m talking about the product that today is about as pervasive in the open source telephony space as voice itself.
The year was 2004 and I was fresh off a brow-beating from a relative who proudly proclaimed that the Dell tower (Asterisk loaded) I offered up as their new phone system, “was not a phone system” but a PC.
Well that was then. Today appliances are the way most in the open source game are delivering their systems.
Recently Rhino Equipment announced their latest open source telephony appliance, the Ceros desktop, aimed at value added resellers service the small medium business sector.
With so much choice in appliances already available, why should anyone pay attention to the Ceros desktop?
To start the Ceros desktop is tough. It’s built in the same vein as all Rhino Equipment products which have always been known for their build quality and performance.
The Ceros desktop is also easy.
It comes pre-loaded with Linux and Asterisk. A big deal when considering there isn’t a ton of margin in a small business sale, so the less time one spends “prepping” a solution the more green they’ll make.
Plus one can’t forget that the Ceros desktop is built for the value added reseller of open source telephony systems.
That means is ships without any markings or silk screening allowing value added resellers to customize the appliance’s exterior as necessary (you can also configure the Ceros’ screen to display a company name and logo).
Oh and the Ceros desktop is the smaller than most books making it perfect home and small offices.
So while there’s plenty of appliances on the market today, there isn’t one quite like the Ceros desktop. Especially if you’re serving the small medium business.
For that alone you should check one out. Or at least so that your next customer doesn’t tell you your “system” is “just a PC.”
