IT Expo proves VoIP industry is still going strong

I’m not one to get nervous. Especially over something as passive as a trade show.

Yet there I sat on my flight to Miami. Worrying what I would find at the Internet Telephony Conference & Expo.

How many exhibitors would actually be in attendance? What would the foot traffic be like? Who’s business would I hear was on the verge of falling off the cliff?

You might think that I was a bit heightened in my worrying – but the who, what, where, when and why of the Internet Telephony Conference & Expo serves as a fantastic gauge of the health of the VoIP industry.

And what did I find?

Well, as usual Rich and crew, did a fantastic job. Yes, the number of exhibitors was down a bit from shows of the past, but the sessions and keynotes have never been as robust.

Not to mention the surprising level of foot traffic that was present from show open to close.

The VoIP industry is not dying. It’s alive, growing and those involved with it continue to impress me with what they are achieving.

In speaking with over 100 of the most influential people in the VoIP industry, the economy has had an effect on their businesses – in most cases a positive one. Someone even told me their customer base tripled from November to January – oh and they’ve been in business for a few years.

Yes, it isn’t great for everyone. But it’s not bad for everyone either. There are still droves of paying customers looking to increase efficiency, make their operations more efficient and say some money in the process. The environment at the show was proof of this.

So, it looks like all of that worrying was for naught – and I couldn’t be happier to write that.
