I am a little late to the party on this, but a few days back, Alec Saunders of Free Conference Calls on Facebook fame, posted the dismal usage statistics of the Facebook VoIP applications. If you look at the chart to the left, you can see that for the most part Facebook users are not using Facebook VoIP applications, yet the Free Conference Calls application is getting a considerable amount of use.
But why?
Honestly, it really comes down to the utility of the application. Facebook VoIP applications, because of the numerous options that are present (and the fact that you can call your friends using your home, office or cell phone) there are much better options for communicating with your friends. On the other hand, how many other conference calling options are available on Facebook? None that I know of. And to add to this, most people do not have conference calling capabilities outside of Facebook either, so the application becomes even more useful. ioutm’s Free Conference Calling application is as useful within Facebook as it is for those with little interest in using Facebook. That’s why they are growing like crazy and others are not.
