Cisco Releases Two New Wireless VoIP Phones

by Garrett Smith

Thanks for returning. You're a very smart person.

Cisco has quietly released two new wireless VoIP phones - one of which is a slick new desktop phone we have been playing around with in the VoIP Supply offices.

The first - the Cisco CP-7925G - is the replacement for Cisco’s CP-7921G wireless VoIP phone. According to my man Ted at UC500.com the CP-7925G comes with such enhancements as a:
cp-7925g

  • Full Color screen
  • Bluetooth support
  • Military 810F standard ruggedized design

No information yet on support SIP, but all signs point to a SCCP only product. You learn read more here.

The other wireless VoIP phone is the Cisco SPA525G. The SPA525G - as mentioned above - is a desktop VoIP phone with 802.11b/g wireless (and wired Ethernet) capabilities.

According to pal Cory Andrews (who gave us a first look at the SPA525), the Cisco SPA525G is the “swiss army knife” of VoIP phones. It boasts- in addition to it’s wireless capabilities:

  • SIP based
  • Bluetooth 2.0 support
  • Full Color Screen
  • XML support
  • USB port
  • 5 Lines

While the SPA525G comes with a hefty price tag ($400) - it’s the first SIP desktop VoIP phone that I know of supporting both wireless and Bluetooth. So if you need to outfit an out-of-the-way space with a VoIP phone or want the freedom of mobility with the convienence that comes with a desktop VoIP phone check it out.

AdTran 706 and 712 IP Phone First Look

by Garrett Smith

One of the things I always look forward to seeing at trade shows are the new products that I have not yet heard of. Last week at the Internet Telephony Expo, I was pleasantly surprised to see that AdTran had one display two new IP phones that are set to hit the market in late February. For those of you who follow the VoIP hardware market closely, you know that AdTran had previously being using a brand version of the Polycom IP 301, IP 501 and IP 601 with their Netvanta IP PBX solution.

adtran ip phones

The new AdTran 706 and 712 IP phones are really slick phones. Here are some feature highlights:

  • SIP Based
  • Platform independent
  • 6 lines and 12 lines respectively
  • Dual RJ45 Ports
  • Power over Ethernet Compatible
  • Full Duplex Speaker Phone
  • Large back-lit display
  • Wall mountable
  • Adjustable stand

The phones were so new that there were no data sheets, so I am simply recanting this from memory, but I can tell you that my overall impressions of the phones were these are definitely put together well enough to be a real competitor in the executive level IP phone space. AdTran is already working with IP PBX platform vendors to fully certify these phones, so unlike many late market entrants, these phones should work with any SIP based IP PBX. With MSRP’s of $249.99 and $299.9 respective, I would expect to see these phone on the street with prices in the $189 and $239 range, putting them in competition with their former OEM partner Polycom.

snom m3 SIP DECT IP Phone

by Garrett Smith

snom m3 is a Slick Looking Device

The snom m3 is one of the slickest VoIP phones I have seen in quite sometime. The snom m3 DECT phone was created renowned designer, Sebastian Stroschein of Stroschein Product Design, Berlin. Stroschein is particularly well-known for luxury car installations including the Bluetooth handset installed in the Maybach limousine, all mobile phone holders in Mercedes-Benz cars, including the iPhone holder, and for the handsets in Porsches and BMWs. High end design finally married with high end functionality - something that has been missing in the VoIP hardware space.

snom Wireless Headset Adapter a Winner

by Garrett Smith

Wireless Headset Offers Non-Mechanical Call Control

Throw away your rubber-band’s (at least that’s what we use at VoIP Supply). The age of the non-mechanical wireless headset adapter for IP phones is here. If you have ever used a wireless headset adapter with your IP phone, you know what a pain the mechanical headset lifter can be. The headset lifter does not work correctly (hence the use of rubber bands to fasten the handset to the lifter). Leave it to snom, who is continuously on the bleeding edge in VoIP endpoint technology to release a non-mechanical wireless headset adapter for desktop IP phones.

About the Snom Wireless Headset Adapter

The snom Wireless Headset Adapter has an EHS, non-mechanical interface between the snom IP phone and wireless headset, conforming to vendor-specific as well as DHSG standards. It allows for electronic reception of calls on the headset itself, offering users the convenience of using a stationary phone while roaming freely throughout the home or office.

Linksys WRTU54G for T-Mobile HotSpot@Home

by Garrett Smith

Linksys WRTU54G to Power T-Mobile HotSpot@Home

FierceVoIP is reporting that T-Mobile has submited a wireless router for testing by the Federal Communications Commission which will be used to enable a T-Mobile residential VoIP service. T-Mobile’s wireless router partner? None other than Linksys. Not that I am surprised that T-Mobile would partner with Linksys on this, but I am surprised they did not go with one of their handset manufacturers, like Motorola, who has already touted similar products.

Vonage Beta Testing Newest Gimmick (Device)

by Garrett Smith

Vonage VDV 21 Yet Another Marketing Gimmick

If someone asked me if adding a LCD screen to a dual FXS ATA would increase activations for a VoIP service provider I would probably laugh. That is precisely what happened tonight when I read about Vonage’s latest marketing gimmick, the Vonage VDV 21 telephone adaptor. The Vonage VDV 21, which is currently in beta testing, features an industrial design uniquely developed for Vonage - a cool and sleek, yet simplistic and approachable design that will inspire consumers to proudly display their Vonage router rather than hide it under their desk. The VDV 21 also includes: [click to continue…]
