Astricon Keynote Speakers List Announced

by Garrett Smith

Thanks for returning. You're a very smart person.

If you are interested in the open source telephony space, then Astricon is the place to be this September 23rd through the 25th.

Astricon is the world’s largest and most informative gathering of expert developers and users of the popular Asterisk telephony platform. The company expects that Astricon ‘08 will be the best Astricon yet, with the expansion of the conference tracks to five, with more than 60 topics to offer attendees more variety and options during the two-day event. The tracks will include business, technical/introductory, carrier/large scale, and two advanced technical tracks.

In addition to the more then 60 sessions and five session tracks, Astricon will feature keynotes from Brian Aker of Sun Microsystems/MySQL and Stefan Öberg of Skype. Aker’s keynote will focus on the topic of “The Parallel Evolution of MySQL; One Foot in the Commercial World and the other in the Open Source Community”, while Öberg will be speaking on the topic of VoIP for Business - certainly an interesting topic since Skype is neither open nor has gained the sort of business user uptake many had projected.

What I like the most about Astricon is that, unlike most conferences, you can actually find sessions that teach you how do to do things. Most of the time sessions revolve around theory, rather than practice, but Astricon’s focus on delivering sessions that empower attendees to harness the power of the technology is certainly the main reason the conference continue to grow in size and influence each year.
