Fellow VoIP blogger and European telecommunications entrepreneur, Pat Phelan is behind this project that allows you to make free calls from the US to anywhere else in the world by simply dialing 712-858-8094 and at the prompt dial 011 and the number you wish to call.

I know I have been often critical of those companies driving the cost of minutes to zero, but hey, it doesn’t get much easier then this make a call, so what the heck, save yourself some money and the hassles other free call providers give you by checking out AllFreeCalls.net!

This is nothing else than Futurephone, a weird Iowa toll number that costs you at least 6 cents or more per minute. The state of Iowa, or better these bogus companies take advantage of an FCC kickback supported by the US Universal Service Fund (USF), so the company generating the calls makes money out of the USF and you. I’m more than sure that this isn’t allowed to continue for long — that’s really not what the USF is for! Don’t get fooled by these services!

There are several services using Iowa numbers for making free international calls such as Free Call Planet. Also, many of the recent entrants to free conference calls also use these 712 Iowa numbers.
I don’t have any opininion about the morality of the issue, but I do wonder about the long term viability if these services are wildly successful.
