Hey, you're new around here aren't ya? Did you know you can every post FREE in your EMAIL or via RSS? Oh and if you're a Twit like me you can follow me on Twitter HERE. Enjoy the post.
I found this beauty on Engadget today. It seems that they have found information on the FCC site on two new Wi-Fi Voip phones from Philips; the VP6500 and the VP6000. Just recently, Philips threw their hat in the skype handset ring, with their VoIP 321 cordless handset. The Philips VP6500 and VP6000 seem to be extremely similar in nature. These new phones from Philips represent the next generation of Wi-Fi voip phones as the integrated the use of video through an integrated camera. What is funny is that a year ago at this time, the UTStarcom F1000 was all the rage, and now it is an example of the “first-wave” of Wi-Fi voip phones.
Here are some of the highlights of the Philips Wi-Fi Voip phones:
- SIP Based
- 802.11b/g
- 2.2-inch screen with 65,000 colors with a QCIF+ 176 x 220 display
- Rotating 240-degree VGA cam
- Hands-free Loudspeaker
- WEP, WAP, WPA2 Wireless Encryption
- VP6500 Has “TV Out” Mode
What is not known is when or at what price the Philips VP6500 and VP6000 will debut. It will also be interesting to see if the Philips VP6500 and or the VP6000 will be sold as an open device or come factory-ready for a VoIP Service Provider. I will keep you updated on this product as more information becomes available.
