It seems that quite a few folks, both publicly and privately, were disappointed with this year’s Fall VON Conference and Expo. Eric Chamberlain, who attend the show as an exhibitor, thought the turn-out was light. He also added that the possible shifting of the industry from early adopter to the mass market phase is a possible reason for the disappointing turn-out.
Even speakers like Alec Saunders, felt that the attendance of this year’s Fall VON blogger’s panel was disappointing in comparison to last year’s turnout.
Personally, I am divided. On one hand, I felt that the traffic was not as promised and there was almost nothing exciting announced, but on the other hand the ability to for me to meet with every person in the industry I need to over a three day period is worth the cost to exhibit. To some extent, I even think that Jeff Pulver see’s the same decline that other individuals have and is a major reason he had decided to promote Fall VON as “Voice on the Net” and “Video on the Net”, with “Video on the Net” becoming it’s own show in 2007.
How does everyone else feel about the recent Fall VON show? Was it a disappointment? Was it a success? Let’s hear what you have to say!

[…] It seems that my original post on Fall VON fueled a war of words this week when fellow blogger Tom Keating wrote a saterical post about the Fall VON being more about Video on the Net then Voice. It seems that Tom’s post even got Jeff Pulver’s attention, causing him to make a WTF call to the CEO of Voxilla. (NOTE: Only Eric was disappointed with FALL VON, not Voxilla. They thought it was great.) Alec Saunders, a long time VON supporter, added on his blog that Iotum had a great show and even offered some insights on how an exhibitor can put themselves in the best position to have a “great show.” […]
